The total amount of daylight remains the same, it just gets shifted forward so that sunlight is available later in the day. I never could figure out why the clock had to change in order for people to enjoy more daylight after work. Why not shift the work schedule so that it's 7 to 4 instead of 8 to 5? That is what actually happens, after all.

You do realize that no daylight actually gets “added” to the day in the summer, right? A compromise was finally reached, “Phoenix Time,” where they split the difference, putting us half hour after Pacific time and a half an hour before Mountain Time
Today, Arizona and Hawaii are the only states that don’t have DST. In Arizona the Navajo Reservation observes DST.

FOOTNOTE: During Territorial years Arizona switched to “Phoenix Time.” There was a long-running debate whether or not the territorial was more closely tied to California, or New Mexico (and the Santa Fe Railroad.)
