So now I know what he really wanted was two 12 1/2 cent recreation tokens :-)

As a kid I always wondered why the bus driver always told me “2 bits” for the fare when it was really a quarter (25 cent). The Army asked for it to be halted, the communities complied (mostly) and its practitioners caught the train for places such as Nevada.
Prohibition would follow soon thereafter. Both prostitution and drinking would still be available just a few miles south, across the border in Mexico.
There was a clever cartoon in the Bisbee paper showing gentlemen, with flowers in hand, woefully visiting the graves of those three vices.

It would be the stationing of the military in nearby Lowell during the Mexican Revolution that finally would cause the demise of prostitution in Bisbee.

The Army asked for it to be halted, the communities complied (mostly) and its practitioners caught the train for places such as Nevada.

Prohibition would follow soon thereafter.
