Chance to Win Clay Thompson’s Latest Book in the Valley 101 Series

Posted by: Andrea Aker In: Arizona Oddities News|Food & Dining

The Arizona Republic columnist and Arizona Oddities contributor Clay Thompson has made a living out of answering the strangest questions in the newsroom and snarking on some of the people who ask them. Now, he’s gone one step further, asking his readers to submit recipes for a cookbook, just so that he can make money as a writer, but without having to do any of the writing itself. The Enormously Big, Official Valley 101 Cookbook will be available November 21 at Clay Thompson Books and in Valley bookstores.

Valley101 Front Cover-250Just like his column “Valley 101” and two books, A Slightly Skewed Guide to Living in Arizona and The Great Big Book of Life, this latest attempt shows off Clay’s talent and finesse in creating something out of nothing. None of the recipes were taste-tested, the list of ingredients weren’t verified, but he was able to bamboozle his mom out of her fried chicken recipe.

The 104 page book contains some 50 recipes, the best of the best (or real close to it)! This book retails for $9.95, but Arizona Oddities readers get the chance to win free copies! Leave a comment with a creative, compelling or funny reason why you deserve this book. As soon as our “Mouth Watering Countdown” concludes (located on the right column of this page), we will select five our favorites who will each receive a free copy!

Let’s hear it! Why do you need this Valley 101 cookbook?

Clay,

Silly…I shouldn’t have to be funny, or creative, or compelling to get a free copy of your cookbook. I’m just getting hungry and I’ve been waiting a long time. If they heard what I’ve been through in anticipation of the release of this cookbook, even your darkest tower masters would conclude that I deserve a copy!

Do I NEED the Valley 101 cookbook? Nah, I need another cookbook like I need a hole in the head. But do I deserve it? You betcha!! I want to see if my recipe made it in the final cut.

I think I should receive a free copy of this cookbook for several reasons.

1. I am a 2nd Generation Native Phoenician
2. I submitted recipes the first time Clay asked
3. I submitted a couple more when he asked because response hadn’t been good the first time around
4. I am currently unemployed after 18+ years with the same company and don’t have the $9.95 to pay for the cookbook

Thank you Clay!!

My wife likes to make cookbooks and give them to our daughter in laws and granddaughter for gifts at birthdays, Christmas, etc. If you will give me one of Clay’s cooking books, I can rip out the pages and give them, one by one, to my wife and tell her I looked them up on the internet. She’ll think I really did a lot of work for her.
Plus, Clay’s book might help me survive when my wife is away and forgets to make me a sandwich before she leaves.
Thanks.

Congrats! You each get a free copy of the The Enormously Big, Official Valley 101 Cookbook. And I must say – you have some great reasons!
